System Diagram showing the processing of food and agricultural wastes to biogas and compost

The system is based on that developed by Bioplex Ltd,  which is similar to the Nisargruna system developed by Dr S. P. Kale of  Bhabha Atomic Research Centre.

These systems use a pre-digester that prepare the food and agricultural wastes before they enter the main digester. Any material that cannot be digested easily is removed before it enters the main digester. The main digester can be underground, reducing the visual impact of the system, as well as allowing low-cost building systems to be used.

The compost breaks down rapidly and has negligible smell, so does not attract pests, such as rats and flies.
